Marseille and San Francisco, November 10, 2021 – Unistellar has been honored with a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards for the eVscope 2, the world’s most powerful digital telescope for consumers, in the Digital Imaging/Photography category. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2022, the world’s most influential technology event. The 2022 Innovations Awards program received more than 1,800 submissions, a record-high number for the CES.
The Unistellar eVscope 2 allows users to experience deep space—faster and clearer than ever—revealing the out-of-this world beauty of galaxies, nebulae, comets, star clusters and beyond. Unistellar’s smart telescope design makes it possible for stargazers to explore the wonders of the Universe from anywhere on Earth, including their backyards or the heart of a city, without prior experience.
With unmatched speed and accuracy powered by Unistellar’s proprietary technologies (Enhanced Vision, Autonomous Field Detection, Light Pollution Reduction), the eVscope 2 is the most user-friendly and powerful consumer space instrument. The eVscope 2 features an electronic eyepiece that leverages Nikon’s pioneering optical expertise, as well as a 7.7 megapixel enhanced image resolution, the highest of any digital telescope.
eVscope 2 users can also challenge the frontiers of our knowledge in partnership with astronomers, through Unistellar’s citizen science campaigns. The eVscope 2 can be used to detect asteroids, distant planets in other solar systems, comets, supernovae and more, helping expand our knowledge of the Universe.
“By honoring Unistellar with this new award, CES is once again contributing to the rise of New Astronomy,” said Laurent Marfisi, Chief Executive Officer, Unistellar. “Through groundbreaking technology, consumers can now experience space at a much deeper, emotional and meaningful level than ever, to the point of contributing to scientific discoveries. Each of us can now experience a cosmic adventure.”
The CES 2022 Innovation Awards marks the second time Unistellar has been recognized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). In 2018, Unistellar’s original eVscope telescope received a CES Innovation Award in the “Tech for a Better World” category recognizing the incredible impact such a new consumer technology would have for science and education. Since then, the company has released two new products and attracted more than 5,000 users worldwide, creating the world’s largest community of explorers of the Universe. Many contributed to scientific research, like in October 2021 when members of the Unistellar community got invited to the NASA’s Lucy mission launch in gratitude for the observations they made with their eVscope to help this space exploration mission.
CES 2022 visitors will be able to enjoy the Unistellar experience firsthand in Las Vegas. The eVscope 2 will be showcased on Nikon’s booth (booth 17917, LVCC) from January 5 to 8. On January 8, Unistellar will join a star party organized at the Neon Museum, allowing visitors to observe galaxies and nebulae from downtown Las Vegas, benefiting from a brand new era of space exploration.
Exclusively for Media Attending CES
Each night, from January 4 to 6, media are invited to join Unistellar and observe deep space while overlooking panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip. Experience the eVscope 2’s powerful Light Pollution Reduction technology firsthand as you observe from a wraparound terrace at The Cosmopolitan overlooking the iconic fountains. Take a tour of the winter sky’s most iconic objects, including colorful nebulae, vibrant star clusters, distant galaxies, and more. Cocktails and desserts will be served; RSVP required.
About the CES Innovation Awards
The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 27 consumer technology product categories. Owned and produced by CTA, CES 2022, the global stage for innovation, will convene the tech industry in person and digitally, giving global audiences access to major brands and startups, as well as the world’s most-influential leaders and industry advocates. Visit CES.tech for all CES 2022 updates, including health protocols and registration.
Unistellar is the start-up behind the eVscope 2 and the eVscope eQuinox, the most powerful and simple-to-operate digital telescopes that bring the wonders of the universe to life in seconds – even in urban settings. Thanks to a partnership with the SETI Institute, these game-changing consumer telescopes allow users to become citizen scientists and contribute to cutting-edge research on exoplanet transits, asteroid occultations, comets, and much more.
The Unistellar eVscope 2 received a CES 2022 Innovation Award in the Digital Imaging category. More than 5,000 digital telescopes are now operating in Europe, Japan, and North America, participating in an unprecedented observing experience.
